Claims Assistance
When disaster strikes and you suffer a claim, you do
not want to deal with bureaucratic organizations that seem more interested
in completing forms than with helping you through the process of getting
your life back to normal. At Canadian Farm Insurance Corporation, our
goal is to guide you through this disturbing event, helping you repair
or replace what has been lost as quickly and easily as possible. If you
experience a loss, we treat it as our opportunity to prove that you have
chosen the best possible insurance organization to protect your assets.
Once notified of a loss by your broker, the CFIC claims process begins. Our
claims team will acknowledge the receipt within hours of notification and,
if necessary, a claims adjuster will be appointed. On receipt of all necessary
documents, the claim will be assessed as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The quality of the information provided aids in the assessment of a claim and
dramatically decreases the time spent making a decision.
It is recommended that all insured parties read their policy documents and
have a clear understanding of what is expected of them in the event of a loss.
Filing Your Claim
Contact
your Broker about your loss. If the loss or damage is an emergency,
you may contact your broker or the nearest Canadian Farm Insurance
Corp. office to report your claim. Be sure to leave a contact name
and phone number.
As soon as it
is safe to do so, take all necessary steps to protect your property from
further damage. Payments for temporary repairs are part of the total settlement
so save your receipts.
Keep a record
of your expenses and correspondence. Also retain copies of whatever documents
and correspondence we provide to you.
The adjuster
may want to see any damaged items so don’t destroy them until
advised to do so. Make a detailed list of all damaged items including
brand names and model numbers. Identify where you purchased the item
and its original purchase price. The adjuster may be able to assist
you in this process.
Obtain
detailed written repair estimates from reliable, licensed and bonded
contractors.
Should
the damages make your residence inhabitable, save the receipts from any
additional living expenses you incur while you are staying elsewhere.
Your policy only considers those expenses over and above your normal
expenses.
